Sunday May 22 saw Codicote Youth FC U12 Dragons of the Hertfordshire Development League bring home Codicote’s first trophy of the summer as they ran out as winners of the Welwyn Garden City Youth FC “Blue” Tournament.
The Dragons topped Group B after winning their opening matches against WGC Cyclones (2-0) and FAE Youth (3-0). In their final group game they faced Ware Lions who had also won both of their opening games. After a tightly contested match, both teams advanced to the quarter finals with the score 0-0.
The quarter final would see Codicote Youth edge Nazeing Youth 2-1 to reward them with a semi-final place against the hosts, WGC Cyclones where they went on to win 3-0.
This set up the final between Codicote Youth and Group A winners, Bedwell Rangers U12 Real, who usually play in the Royston Crow League Division 1. Codicote Youth rounded out the competition with a 2-0 win to see Hertfordshire Development League team lift the trophy.
Also representing Codicote Youth at the Tournament were the U7 Eagles, U9 Chargers and the U11 Sharks teams and everyone at Codicote Youth would like to thank Welwyn Garden City Youth for their warm welcome and excellently organised tournament.
